Meet The LX Aviation Team

John Delafield
Chair

John always wanted to fly and joined the Royal Air Force in 1956 for training as a pilot and, in his early years, flew Hunters. He later became an RAF Flying Instructor and achieved the coveted A1 category. But he always had a passion for gliding and won no less than 8 UK National Gliding Championships, resulting in him being listed in two successive Guiness Book of Records, and represented the UK at several World Gliding Championships.
Including the gliding, he has over 9,500 flying hours, nearly all in single engine aircraft or gliders
He first flew a Dynamic in 2008 when the RAF said he was too old to fly RAF Cadets any more. But he still flies, albeit with someone else in the cockpit!
He says that the Dynamic is amongst the best aircraft he has ever flown.

Allan started flying as a cadet with the Air Training Corps (Air Cadets) and carried on with the organisation to become an instructor and later the Officer Commanding of 618 VGS. After retirement from the organisation and from a full career with Shell, he became a regular gliding instructor at Lasham Gliding Centre. As for powered aircraft, he flies a Cessna 152, motor gliders and the Dynamic LSM which is the machine he is most enthusiastic about.
